With the series MICROTOMES I seek to develop a sculptural impression applied to everyday objects by utilising a technical yet poetical approach. The hereby derived objects and its typology are crossreferenced to a very broad field of input from science, art, architecture and design.
Inspired by my childhood beeing surrounded by trees, cut lumber and people processing wood I took reference to a specific tree which was planted by my grandfather. Thinly cut pieces of this very ash wood tree were the starting point of a scientific observation of the internal structure of wood and its refined structural ornaments unveiling new layers of perceiving the resource wood. Using pictures beeing created through staining methods and microscopic imaging the internal structure of the ash wood gets transferred onto itself by digital printing. The material becomes canvas and content simultaneously.
